Mani Sarbartho
Mani Sarbartho, a rising chess player from West Bengal, has quickly become one of India’s most promising young talents. At just 10 years old, he has already achieved success at both national and international levels, showing maturity and composure well beyond his years.
His breakthrough came in 2023, when he scored a perfect 9/9 to win the National Under-7 Championship. He followed this with international triumphs, including a Gold Medal at the Asian Youth Blitz Championship 2024 (U-8 Open), where his sharp play in fast formats stood out. In 2025, Mani added another major title to his name by winning the FIDE World Cup Cadets (U-10 Open), securing victory in rapid tiebreaks after a tense final.
Mani also had the unique opportunity to play alongside legends like Viswanathan Anand as part of Team Freedom at the FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Team Championships 2025. Competing as the youngest member, he impressed with an 11/12 blitz score and contributed to the team’s bronze medal in rapid. His performance drew high praise from captain Emil Sutovsky, who noted his tactical sharpness and passion for chess.
With strong achievements already, Mani continues to grow as a dedicated and enthusiastic player, inspiring young chess lovers across India.
